Niv-Hoffman

Niv Hoffman was born in Israel. He is a graduate of the Weizmann Conservatory in piano and he studied composition at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music, from which he graduated cum laude and received a scholarship from the AICF for furthering his studies. He participated in the English National Theatre's Young Directors course and at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center summer program. He has worked for several years as assistant director and production stage manager with the Israeli Opera on numerous productions. He was assistant director to Franco Zeffirelli inLa traviata (Verdi) and Pagliacci (Leoncavallo), to William Friedkin in Samson and Dalila (Saint-Saens) and to Omri Nitzan in A Journey to the End of the Millennium (Bardanashvili). He also assisted Lorenzo Mariani in Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart) at the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. For the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra he directed The Seven Deadly Sins (Weill). At the Levinski Music School he directed Fiddler on the Roof.  For the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at the Tel Aviv University, where he also thought acting for singers, he directed Le nozze di Figaro and Der Schauspieldirektor (Mozart). At the IVAI he directed La traviata (Verdi) and Zanetto (Mascagni). For the Haifa Symphony Orchestra he directed Le nozze di Figaro and Cosi Fan Tutte (Mozart) in productions with the Israeli Opera Young Artists Program. For the PHOENIX Ensemble he directed the medieval musical play Ludus Danielis (The Play of Daniel). He recently worked at the Antwerp, Rome and Palermo opera houses. For the Opera Studio of the Israeli Opera he has directed many productions including La serva padrona (Pergolesi), La Cenerentola (Rossini), Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss),Hansel und Gretel (Humperdinck), Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Die Zauberflote (Mozart), Orfeo ed Euridice(Gluck) and other productions.
