Shira Ben Yehoshua was born in Israel. She started playing the flute at the age of 10 and the oboe at age of 16, with Mina Seidman-Haas and continued with George Hass and Bruce Weinstein. She graduated from the Arts and Science Academy in Jerusalem, completed her B.Mus at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University, then continued studying at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Music Academy in Leipzig, with Henrik Wahlgren in Oboe and Gundel Jannemann-Fischer in cor anglais.
Shira received the America-Israel Foundation scholarships for 2001-2007 and won Excellence Scholarships throughout her studies at the Buchmann-Mehta School, where she also won several prizes in Solo playing and Chamber Music Ensembles competitions.
She participated in master classes with Paul Dombrecht, Anthony Pay, Klaus Becker amongst others.
Shira Was an oboist and cor anglais player at the Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheeba. She also performed in orchestras and ensembles including the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble Meitar, Gropius Ensemble, Kammerphilharmonie Leipzig Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum and the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig with such conductors and artists as Zubin Mehta, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Peter Schreier and Mendi Rodan. Today Shira holds a position as an oboe and cor anglais player at the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
